One of our signature achievements is the Chameleon Effect – a spectacular technique that shifts color depending on the viewing angle. Originally introduced in the Germania Beasts series, each coin was adorned with a distinctive violet-green finish, adding depth and three-dimensionality to the design. Today, Germania Mint offers the Chameleon Effect in as many as three color variations.
It is a modern ennobling technique that creates a dynamic color shift on the coin’s surface – depending on how the light falls. Each variant combines two dominant colors that blend seamlessly, producing a mesmerizing play of shades.
Currently, we offer three unique combinations:
violet-green
pink-green
yellow-green
The Chameleon Effect reveals its full potential on ultra high reliefs, where the interplay of light and shadow enhances the impression of depth and motion. Moreover, it can be combined with other techniques, creating truly multi-layered numismatic works of art.

Germania Beasts is one of the most recognizable and innovative collections in Germania Mint’s portfolio. Its unique design concept allows the obverse and reverse to form a single image of a mythological beast when placed side by side. It is also a spectacular showcase of the Chameleon Effect and other advanced ennobling techniques that turn coins into true works of art.
Inspired by Germanic mythology, each release is struck in ultra high relief and limited to just 999 pieces.
So far, the series consists of three coins:
Fafnir – the dragon’s shimmering violet-green scales resemble the skin of a mythical creature. Combined with ultra high relief, they create a nearly three-dimensional effect.
Fenrir – the giant wolf. The Chameleon Effect enhances both the background and the magical Gleipnir chains binding the beast. Enriched with UV Effect and Glow in the Dark, the coin offers an extraordinary, multi-layered composition.
Gullinbursti – the golden-maned boar with a mechanical appearance. Its ornaments, covered with the Chameleon Effect, shine even in static presentation, evoking an illusion of movement.
The Chameleon Effect was designed for modern collectors – those who seek coins that engage the senses, dynamic and ever-changing in perception.”
Advantages of the Chameleon Effect:
adds modernity and dynamism to the design
deepens the relief, visually “bringing it to life”
integrates seamlessly with other ennobling techniques
increases both collector appeal and market value
Developed over years by our R&D department, the Chameleon Effect is now available in full production scale in three stunning variants. The effect can be applied to backgrounds as well as key relief elements (excluding coin edges).
It is a perfect solution for projects intended to emphasize the complexity of characters, architecture, or floral motifs.
The Chameleon Effect is a perfect example of how technology can elevate traditional craftsmanship.
