The Betta Fish is a tropical freshwater fish, a predator that impresses with its majestic appearance and belligerent disposition. Its long fins and intense colours make it one of the most recognisable fish species in the world. It is characterised not only by its beautiful colouration, but also by its extraordinary determination and prowess. That fish are known to defend their territory with a fierceness worthy of the greatest warriors. It is their prowess and steadfastness that has earned them the nickname ‘Jewels of the Orient’, being both symbols of courage and determination.
The coin is the result of a collaboration between Germania Mint and the Mint of Poland, as part of a series depicting unusual animals. The coin weighs 2 ounces of fine silver, presenting the image of a red and blue fighter refined with metallic lustre. It is not only a numismatic specimen of the highest quality, but also a tribute to the beauty and multiplicity of aquatic life. In addition, the high relief of the coin beautifully displays the scales and fins of the fish, giving the coin a stunning appearance. The reverse of the coin is decorated with the Niue Island coat of arms.
This series is a testament to our ongoing admiration for the amazing natural world and our concern to preserve it for future generations, so the packaging for the coin has been made from 100% natural and ecological components – we have wood, paper and linen here. This is the first packaging of its kind from Germania Mint.
Each of the 500 specially ennobled coins, accompanied by a partner certificate of authenticity, is a unique gift for collectors and nature enthusiasts.
The previous coin of the series also depicted a tropical animal, but with a very different disposition, though equally beautiful in colour – the chameleon. The ruthenium coating used here brilliantly showcases the reptile’s greenish colour, and the refinement of the coin is complemented by red scales, shimmering among shades of green and blue. Thanks to the high relief applied to the coin, all the details of the design are exposed.
It was this ‘Representatives of the Species’ series that inspired Germania Mint to become more committed to caring for the environment, which resulted in us receiving FSC certification – indicating that we only use wood from legal and verified sources. More information on this can be found here.
We are very proud of such actions, and are constantly working on new technologies that take into account recycled and naturally sourced materials, so that we can take greater care of the environment and protect the planet.
We urge enthusiasts to acquire these coins exclusively from certified sources. A comprehensive list of authorized distributors is available at https://germaniamint.com/retail.
