He stopped the Sun, moved the Earth
The year 2023 marks the 550th anniversary of the birth of Nicolaus Copernicus, Poland’s most famous astronomer. That’s why Germania Mint is issuing an unusual coin – 2023 Malta Copernicus 10 Euro 2 oz Silver BU.
Nicolaus Copernicus launched the scientific revolution and had a significant impact on its development. His most important achievement is the heliocentric theory, which stated that the Earth and other planets revolve around the Sun, not the other way around, as was believed at the time. Copernicus published this theory in his work entitled “De revolutionibus orbium coelestium” (On the Revolutions of the Celestial Spheres).
The obverse of the coin with the image of Copernicus is ennobled with an amber sun. The reverse is a 16th-century solar system. The coin, designed by Natalia Danysz, will be available in the unique packaging, with a mintage of 1,473 numbered pieces.
