Their home was the well of Urd, a sacred source of wisdom and destiny. There, in the half-light of the tangled roots, the Whispering Ones watered the tree with water and white clay from the well, healing its wounds and maintaining the balance of the world. For if it were to wither, the fate of gods and men alike would come to an end.

Every day they spun the golden threads of life. From their weaving, human destinies were born – delicate, sometimes tangled, and occasionally abruptly cut by the edge of their shears. The Norns appeared at births to grant a name and a fate to each new life. And when the time of death came, one of them would sever the thread of life, ending the soul’s journey through the earthly world.
